THE QUICK ANSWER

First confirm playback works with the screen on. If locking the screen causes the failure, review YMusic’s app-specific battery and data settings, test again, then restore any setting that did not help.

Confirm that this is a background problem

Use the same item and connection for a short foreground check and a screen-off check. Note whether the music stops immediately, after a delay, or when you switch apps. Check the volume and audio output too: an earbud disconnect or another app taking audio focus can resemble a playback failure.

If foreground playback also fails, use the playback error checklist first. Changing battery settings cannot fix every unavailable stream.

Review app-specific battery use

  1. Find YMusic’s App info

Open Settings → Apps → YMusic, or long-press the app icon and choose App info if your launcher offers it. Look for Battery, App battery usage or a similar label.

  2. Check background access

On current Pixel guidance, Battery → Battery usage lets you select an app and review Allow background usage. Google recommends Optimized for general use. If YMusic is restricted and your test isolates a screen-off failure, change only its background allowance and retest.

  3. Test the smallest useful change

Some phones offer Optimized, Restricted and Unrestricted modes; others use different labels. Allowing more background work can increase battery use. Keep the change only if your test shows it is needed.

  4. Check Battery Saver during the test

If Battery Saver was active when playback stopped, compare a brief test with it off, then restore your preferred setting. Do not disable battery management for all apps as a permanent first fix.

Samsung: review sleeping apps

Samsung documents Sleeping apps, Deep sleeping apps and Never sleeping apps. Look under Settings → Battery (or Battery and device care) → Background usage limits; the path varies by One UI version.

If YMusic appears in a sleeping list and your screen-off test fails, remove it from that list and retest. A Never sleeping exception is available on supported models, but can use more battery. Apply an exception only when needed rather than adding every app.

These are Samsung’s system settings, not confirmed YMusic menu labels. Our project has not tested a Galaxy device.

Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, Vivo and other phones

Settings can differ by model, region and OS version. Search your phone’s Settings for YMusic, background usage, battery optimization, app battery management or auto-start. Verify the labels in your manufacturer’s support material before changing them.

We have not verified one exact menu path for every HyperOS, ColorOS, Realme UI or Funtouch OS release. Auto-start and a recent-app lock are not universal requirements. If a system cleaner stops the app during your test, note that behavior and adjust only the relevant app rule.

Check data restrictions and controls

In YMusic’s Android App info, review mobile and background data if streaming stops only away from Wi-Fi. If Data Saver is enabled, see whether an app-specific allowance is available and appropriate for your data plan.

If playback continues but lock-screen controls are missing, inspect notification permissions and lock-screen notification preferences separately. Missing controls do not automatically mean the audio service is stopped. The notification flow for this build has not been tested.

If audio still stops

Try a second available item, restart the app, and check for a publisher update. Record the delay before failure and whether it also happens while the screen is on.

A publisher-described feature is not a guarantee for every Android release. If all app-specific checks fail, keep the error record and use the original service while awaiting guidance. See YMusic compared with YouTube Music for the differences in background playback and supported service routes.
